FLY AWAY - THE BUTTERFLY STROKE VIDEO
Video Fly Away - The Butterfly Stroke in Swimming (NTSC) by Monika E. Schloder.
  Copyright 1996 - Video – 48 minutes - NTSC.

Fly Away presents a progressive, sequential teaching model that uses an innovative and interactive approach to the butterfly stroke. It adapts moves from ballet, gymnastics, and track and field to help develop and refine stroke technique. Rhythm, body awareness, stroke relaxation, and body undulation are also emphasized as key teaching or coaching points. The video presents the following in simple to complex movement sequences:

  • Body position and undulation
  • Arm action
  • Breathing action
  • Leg action
  • Body streamlining
  • Turn-finish action
  • Special refinements for specific body parts, limbs, and movements.

Thirty-five years of personal teaching and coaching expertise in swimming, gymnastics, and track and field provide Monika E. Schloder a wealth of personal knowledge in instructional methodology. Through the years, she has pursued her passion for excellence in instructional methodology, teaching beginning swimmers to trained elite athletes. Since 1976 Schloder has been the master course conductor in the Canadian National Coaching Certification Program. She also is the master coach in residence for the minority coach leadership program in Los Angeles, California. Schloder is a faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary.
