SWIMMING DRILLS FOR EVERY STROKE
Book on Swimming Drills for Every Stroke by Ruben Guzman.
  Copyright 1998 - Paperback – 208 pages.

Competitive swimmers know that even a minor flaw in stroke technique can mean the difference between first and last place in a race. Swimming Drills for Every Stroke gives any swimmer the competitive edge by teaching perfect form for the backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and butterfly.

Unique in its focus on improving swimmers’ form in the water, Swimming Drills for Every Stroke is the perfect handbook for swimming coaches, parents, and swimmers at all developmental levels. This training guide provides the essential drills for all four strokes as well as for starts and turns. Accompanied by helpful coaching tips and focus points, these 91 drills enable swimmers to develop more efficient technique for faster times in every event.

The drills show you first how to master the fundamentals, then how to refine each stroke. Swimming Drills for Every Stroke divides each of the drills into four simple steps:

1. Explanation. The method for performing the drill is described in detail.
2. Demonstration. Precise, sequenced illustrations of each drill are included, so you see the proper form and can roughly duplicate it.
3. Correction. Little by little, you rid your form of imperfections.
4. Repetition. Repeating the drill until it becomes second nature enables you to bring your new form from the practice setting to the race.

By following these simple steps, swimmers can master the drills that will help them race to the top of their competitive ranks.

Ruben Guzman, a United States Swimming (USS) coach for age-group swimmers, has coached swimming for more than 18 years at the summer recreational, high school, collegiate, and competitive year-round (USS) levels. An expert on the mechanisms of the human body, Guzman has trained in physics, kinesiology, anatomy, education, and behavioral changes. He has a master’s degree in Public Health and is also a health promotion specialist.

Some of Guzman’s swimmers have advanced all the way to nationals and the Olympic trials. Having served as the "stroke specialist" for the California Capital Aquatics team, Guzman has worked closely with head coach Mike Hastings, an assistant coach on the 1992 United States Olympic Team.

Guzman recently founded a new USS team, the American River Gold, centered in Sacramento, California, where he currently lives. When he’s not coaching or swimming, he enjoys playing basketball, snow skiing, and other activities with his two sons.
