The Youth and Adult Aquatic Program builds on the success of the popular YMCA Progressive Swimming program. Designed for use in conjunction with Teaching Swimming Fundamentals, The Youth and Adult Aquatic Program Manual provides specific instruction that makes it easy to conduct successful Youth and adult classes.
The Youth and Adult program is divided into seven levels, each level building on the one before it:
• Polliwog
• Guppy
• Minnow
• Fish
• Flying Fish
• Shark
• Porpoise (sometimes offered in a club format)
The Youth and Adult Aquatic Program Manual devotes one chapter to each level. It gives you everything you need to develop fun, effective lesson plans that meet the objectives for each level.
Each level is structured around five core components:
• Personal safety
• Personal growth
• Stroke development
• Water games and sports
• Rescue
At every level you’ll find specific objectives for each component, plus a sample teaching strategy for each objective. Whenever a new skill is introduced, you’ll find a complete, illustrated description of the skill. Discussion questions, instructor notes, and lists of performance criteria all make it easy to teach Youth and adult classes.
The appendixes include special drills for improving strokes and building fitness, plus rules for playing wetball.
