Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act. Safety is an issue that concerns everybody. That's why this new legislation states that every public or commercial pool or spa with a single main drain per pump must have a device such as a Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS). This law is intended to keep swimmers safe and help avoid possible entrapment and accidental drowning.
Installing a Stratus VRS to your public or commercial pool not only adds an additional layer of protection but also makes it compliant to the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act. Stratum VRS monitors the change in suction pressure, will shut down the pump, and vents to atmosphere to help prevent entrapment.
The most advanced SVRS system available! The Stratum VRS is certified and fully compliant with the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act and is the only SVRS engineered to do all of the following:
- Vent the pump suction line to the atmosphere.
- Shut off power to the pump motor.
- Automatically restart the system in protection mode to eliminate nuisance tripping.
Only Hayward offers an SVRS that is programmed with complete self-testing diagnostics that perform a system check during each start-up. The Stratum meets and exceeds all relevant ASME/ANSI performance standards. And as an added benefit, it is easily installed, in as little as one hour. All that comes in one complete SVRS package, making Stratum the most advanced SVRS system available.
Automatic restart in protection mode eliminating nuisance tripping.
Complete internal system check.
Directly monitors and reacts to changes in suction outlet systems.
Meets or exceeds all relevant ASME/ANSI performance standards.
Installs in as little as one hour!
Seven-day programmable timer.
Turns off power to the pump and vents the suction line to atmosphere.
During each start-up, Stratum VRS adjusts to current operational parameters of the system.
For use in suction lift or in flooded suction.
Designed for use with single phase pumps up to 3HP. Larger or 3-phase pumps require additional motor control equipment, for use with the Stratum.
Stratum is effective in monitoring the suction pressure in single or multiple suction outlet (drain) systems, which share a common suction line. It features an automatic restart after certain activations and is programmed with an internal checking system that performs performance diagnostics during each start-up.
Not only does Stratum VRS add an important layer of protection, it also keeps your pool open. The Hayward Stratum is constantly monitoring changes in a pump's suction line. When a change of pressure is detected, Stratum shuts off all power to the pump and vents the suction line to atmosphere. Once Stratum detects that the line is clear of any obstructions, it restarts the pump automatically, eliminating the need to shut down your pool and have a service technician restart your system. It also helps prevent any possible lapse in filration and sanitization during the time the pump is off. All of this means better service for your swimmers while saving you time and money.
Safety First! The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety act has mandated additional safety methods to avoid suction outlet entrapment. According to the National Safe Kids organization, more than two-thirds of parents (66 percent) are not at all or only somewhat familiar with the topic of suction entrapment and entanglement. According to the CPSC, there are five categories of potential suction entrapment hazards and there is no single product that protects against all five-entrapment hazards. The five hazards are:
Body suction entrapment
When it comes to pools and safety you can never be too careful. Understanding and knowing how to keep swimmers safe is a subject where we can never know, or do, too much. Hayward strives to be a responsible corporation concerning the growing need for energy efficient, environmentally friendly products. We work hard to continue to raise the bar to provide industry changing, innovative products that meet the demands of our customers and the growing concerns of the public.
Supervision is always your primary layer of protection. For information about Suction entrapment risks visit www.cpsc.gov. Whether you are a residential or public pool owner, safety should always come first.
