New Jersey Swimming Pool Rules and Regulations
Whether you're a pool owner or operator, it's important to be aware of the state and local regulations regarding commercial swimming pools. The State of New Jersey is responsible for regulating swimming pools. The State has recently released its updated regulations for swimming pools and these regulations dictates the required safety equipment, pool rules signs, safety signs as well as various other traditional construction and safety regulations related to swimming pools.

Safety Equipment Notes
- Rescue Pole 12' Required
- Shepherds Crook 1 crook required.
- Ring Buoys 1 18" Life Ring Buoy required for pools exempt to have Lifeguards.
- Throw Line 1/4” in diameter, 30 feet minimum. 60 feet required at beach stations.
- Lifeguard Chair Elevated Lifeguard Stand for pools with water surface area over 2000 square feet.
- Depth Markers Placed at maximum and minimum points of depth and at all points of slope change, no more than 2 feet intermediate increments. Horizontally spaced at no more than 25 ft intervals and shall be arranged uniformly on both sides. Irregularly shaped pools shall designate major deviations in shape. FEET AND INCHES. Slip Resistant on Deck. A minimum of two depth markers per hot tub or spa (slip resistant) is required.
- Rescue Tube 1 or more for each lifeguard on duty.
