Iowa Swimming Pool Rules and Regulations
Regulations for the State of Iowa for commercial swimming pools dictates the required safety equipment, pool rules signs, safety signs as well as various other traditional construction and safety regulations related to swimming pools.

| Notes: | The Iowa Pool Rules sign incorporates stipulations outlined in Iowa Rule 641-15.1 (1351) and must be posted a minimum of two locations within the pool enclosure. The Iowa No Lifeguard signs follow the Iowa Rule and must be posted at each entry to a swimming or wading pool where no lifeguard is in attendance. |

Safety Equipment Notes
- Rescue Pole 8' Required. 1 unit of lifesaving equipment for each 1500 square ft.
- Ring Buoy 18" Life Ring Buoy Required
- Rescue Tube Tube only with lifeguards.
- Lifeguard Chair Where required, 1 elevated chair for 2000 to 4000 square ft., 2 elevated chairs for 4001 to 6000 square ft., and 3 for 6001 feet or more.
- Throw Line 1/4” in diameter, 1-1/2x width of pool - no more than 60 feet.
- Depth Markers
On deck, at 1 foot intervals (but not more than 20 ft. apart) where water is 5 feet or less (wave pools deck and wall, 3 ft. or deeper). Maximum depth of pool at both sides of pool at main drain. Depth marked at both ends of float line, where float line required. Depth markers shall be located not more than 25 ft. apart measured between the centers of the depth markers around the deep end of the swimming pool. The words “Deep Water” may be used in place of numerals.
No Diving in wording or graphics within 3 feet of pool in shallow areas and where determined by management. In lieu of above, Wading Pools, maximum depth posted at each entrance to pool and one conspicuous location inside wading pool 3” high, letters or numbers. No Diving not required for 0 depth or wading pools.
- Rope & Float Line Line and floats on 4 inch painted stripe (required) between shallow and deep water (5 ft). Floats no more than 5 feet apart. Within 12” of shallow edge.
- Spineboard Spine Board where lifeguard required.
- Rescue Blanket 2 blankets required.
