North Carolina Swimming Pool Rules and Regulations
Regulations for the State of North Carolina for commercial swimming pools dictates the required safety equipment, pool rules signs, safety signs as well as various other traditional construction and safety regulations related to swimming pools.

Notes: | North Carolina 15A NCAD 18A pool regulations require a statement in one inch lettering that we have both on the No Lifeguard sign and on the Pool Rules sign. Both the rules sign and the No Lifeguard sign are required when the facility does not have a lifeguard on duty. |
Required Equipment for Public Pools
Safety Equipment Notes
- Ring Buoys 18" Life Ring Buoy Required. 2 units of life saving equipment required if pool exceeds 3000 sq. ft.
- Rescue Pole 12' Required.
- Throw Line 1/4” in diameter, 1.5x maximum width of pool or 50 feet, whichever is less.
- Depth Markers All points of maximum and minimum depths, at transition point where slope changes, at both ends of pool. Spaced at intervals no greater than 25’ Include Feet or Ft. Deck skid resistant. No Diving markers on pool deck under 5 ft. Can be international symbol.
- Rope & Float Line Safety rope and floats at breakpoint where slope at bottom changes to exceed a 1 to 10 vertical rise. Colored floats not greater than a 5 ft spacing. Rescue tube can be substituted if life guards on duty.
- Rescue Tube If lifeguards are on duty.
