Ohio Swimming Pool Rules and Regulations
Regulations for the State of Ohio for commercial swimming pools dictates the required safety equipment, pool rules signs, safety signs as well as various other traditional construction and safety regulations related to swimming pools.

Notes: | Ohio OAC Chapter 3701-31-01 requires certain rules be included in their Spa Rules sign. The code provides general safety and sanitary regulations which are reflected in the Ohio Pool Rules. Any public swimming pools that are closed must post at least one Danger or Warning – Pool Closed sign. |

Safety Equipment Notes
- Rescue Pole 12' Required
- Ring Buoy 18" Life Ring Buoy required if no lifeguard
- Throw Line 1/4" in diameter, not less than 30 feet or more than 60 feet.
- Depth Markers On deck within 2 ft. of water’s edge or within 6” of back gutter. Must be skid resistant. Linear distance no greater than 25 ft. Marked at maximum and minimum points, at points of break between deep and shallow, and at intermediate points (public pools or special use). Minimum of 2 depth markers for spas and wading pools. NUMERALS Feet and Inches may be abbreviated. Depth to nearest 6”. NO DIVING 4” lettering or symbol skid resistant, placed adjacent to depth markers along deck at shallow areas with 2 ft. of water’s edge (does not include spas or wading pools). ZERO DEPTH for zero depth booths at entrance. Minimum of 2 markers.
- Rope & Float Line Rope with intermittent floats at water depths which exceed five feet and at changes in slope. Anchored and located one foot toward shallow portion.
- Rescue Tube If pool staffed by lifeguard.
